Toronto-based producer Heather Blom will work alongside Dark Slope Studios on a hyperreality project following the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals

3 February 2022 (TORONTO, ON) – Dark Slope Studios, a Toronto-based virtual production and metaverse gaming company are pleased to announce Heather Blom as the winner of their Virtual Production Fellowship program. Announced in July of last year, the fellowship will provide $5000 in funding alongside mentorship and industry advice to support the next generation of talent in unscripted television

The project will follow the lives of a core cast of queer individuals, exploring self expression and community in a virtual playground while also delving into how the experience impacts their lives in the real world. Blom and Dark Slope Studios will work together to produce concept art, further concept development and prototypes under Blom’s concept.

Heather Blom is a creator and producer based in Toronto, Ontario. While new to virtual production, Heather has developed a body of work that intersects her expansive background in producing alongside experience in the performing arts. Her work spans theatre, film and immersive entertainment, and she has worked alongside major household brands and arts organisations alike.

Greatly influenced by her lived experience growing up openly queer in rural Atlantic Canada, Heather will utilise her past production experience alongside the technical expertise of Dark Slope Studios to continue exploring the themes of LGBTQ+ placemaking and community through the fellowship program.

“Through all of the applications we received Heather’s concept resonated with each member of our team. Informed by her personal experience she found a story where moving between the real and virtual world allows for identity exploration in a safe and inclusive environment. We are looking forward to supporting its evolution with technical and creative expertise.” Dan Fill, President, Dark Slope Studios
