Bullfrog Power and Dark Slope are pleased to announce a new partnership to help support sustainable practices within the entertainment industry. This collaboration focuses on reducing carbon footprints and fostering environmentally responsible processes for productions at Dark Slope's soundstage facility.

Dark Slope is the first soundstage studio in Canada to partner with Bullfrog Power to choose green energy for its back-office operations and provide a green energy option for clients.  Dark Slope has committed to Bullfrog Power powering the studio usage for all its original IP productions shot at its soundstage facilities. Through this partnership, Bullfrog Power’s producers put renewable electricity onto the grid to match the amount of conventional electricity used by the soundstage studios. Across Canada, Bullfrog Power’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind, solar, and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities.

Any clients who book Dark Slope’s virtual production and motion capture capabilities will be offered a range of resources and options to support green production practices, including:

  • An option to match the electricity usage associated with their productions with Bullfrog Power’s renewable electricity
  • A repository of information on green production, carbon calculators, and sustainable practices.
  • Documentation from Bullfrog Power acknowledging the certified green energy purchase related to their production.
  • Preferred rates
  • Annual green energy audit report.

"Dark Slope is a leader in virtual production by using economical and efficient tools to produce quality content" said Suha Jethalal, President of Bullfrog Power. "By partnering with us, Dark Slope is ensuring that these benefits extend to their clients’ sustainability efforts as well. This collaboration not only highlights the importance of sustainability in virtual production but also joins other leaders in setting a precedent for their industry."

"Virtual Production is already a step in the right direction. Shooting on an LED volume stage in and of itself significantly reduces the carbon footprint for most productions compared to shooting on location. We wanted to go a step further and allow our clients to address their Virtual Production’s carbon footprint through our green energy program developed with Bullfrog Power," said Dark Slope President, Dan Fill. "Through our partnership, Bullfrog Power will offer easy, impactful, and realistic solutions for our customers to match the amount of electricity associated with their productions, making sustainable production more accessible.”

Over the past two months, Bullfrog Power has completed a review of Dark Slope’s energy usage and determined a median rate for the different areas of the facility, including:  The LED volume stage, the motion capture stage, the standing set stage as well as the support spaces and back office. Bullfrog Power’s specialty pricing is an efficient and transparent solution to address the energy-related carbon footprint associated with the Virtual Production costs of shooting at Dark Slope. Producers who are willing to go a step further will be provided with resources and carbon calculator tools should they wish to offset their entire production, while taking advantage of the bulk rate secured through this partnership.

Phase 1 of this initiative begins December 1st, 2024.
