Distributor and exhibitor SoReal VR has licensed Dark Slope’s Scarygirl: Mission Maybee to bring the location-based free roam VR experience to China.
July 8, 2024 - Toronto, Ontario - Chinese distributor and exhibitor SoReal VR has licensed Dark Slope’s Scarygirl: Mission Maybee to bring the location-based free roam VR experience to China. This deal will see Scarygirl appear at high profile locations including the Shanghai Disneyland SoReal venue as well as sites in Shougang and Daxing in Beijing, downtown Shanghai, Chengdu in Sichuan, Luoyang in Henan and Liuzhou in Guangxi.
Based on the widely loved graphic novel and toy series by creator Nathan Jurevicius, Dark Slope’s Scarygirl: Mission Maybee is a free-roam experience where up to 8 players engage on a quest to stop Dr. Maybee from an environmental disaster. The thrilling multiplayer VR experience integrates player motion tracking, haptics, and spatial audio in a large, stunning animated virtual world.
This licensing deal with SoReal VR expands on previously inked distribution deals for this title with Vertigo Games, and Zero Latency for this title.
Dark Slope’s President, Dan Fill, shares that “I am very proud of this partnership with SoReal in China. This deal signals that the Location Based Entertainment industry is bouncing back since the pandemic. This is Dark Slope's very first location-based activity and remains a truly unparalleled experience”.
This timely announcement comes just months ahead of the North American release of the ‘Scarygirl’ animated feature film acquired by Viva Pictures and co-produced by Highly Spirited and Like A Photon Creative.
“I’m excited about the continued success of the Scarygirl universe and how it’s expanding globally” shares Scarygirl creator, Nathan Jurevicius. “From its indie beginnings as a book and collectible toys, Scarygirl can now be experienced on the big screen, small screen and as a spatial activity at theme parks.”
Dark Slope recently secured investment from Relay Ventures and SideFX Software. Last month the company opened one of North America's largest Virtual Production LED volume soundstage facilities in Toronto.
Dark Slope's games team are currently working on 3 XR titles targeting the Meta Quest platform including a partnership with 30 Ninjas (US) and A Stark Production (Australia).
